Reading Police Arrest Teen, Discover Weapon in Car Following Hit and Run

Reading, Massachusetts police arrested a teenager Saturday night on numerous charges, including carrying a firearm without a license and larceny of a motor vehicle, according to officials.

Police say the 16-year-old male, of Charlestown, fled officers in a vehicle after an alleged hit and run around 6:45 p.m. Officials later learned that the vehicle involved in the hit and run crash, and the one in which the suspect fled, had previously been reported stolen.

Police took the juvenile into custody and arrested him after the pursuit led to Liberty Lane, a dead end street in North Reading.

While searching the vehicle the suspect had been driving, police say they discovered a handgun and a feeding device inside a backpack with the juvenile's name on it.

The suspect was additionally charged with possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition without an FID card, receiving stolen property, operating without a license, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, operating to endanger, violation of the marijuana bylaw, and other traffic violations, according to authorities.

There were no injuries as a result of the incident. The suspect, whose name has not been released, will be arraigned in Woburn District Court. It is unclear whether he has an attorney.
