Record-Breaking Heat Wednesday; Temperatures Ease Thursday

The blazing heat and humidity in New England finally comes to an end on Thursday as a cold front moves through.

That front is already arriving in Northern New England tonight, with scattered showers and storms in Vermont, New Hamsphire, and Maine.

In Southern New England it’s quiet and still very hot and stuffy.

On Wednesday afternoon, a record-breaking temperature of 97 degrees was set in Boston. That temperatures breaks the old record of 96 degrees for this date in 1953. The temperature, however, continued to climb higher into the afternoon.

The front will move south Thursday, bringing more clouds that will help cap our temperatures in the 80s. It will still be quite muggy early on, but humidity will drop from north to south as less muggy air moves in behind the front.

With the cold front sliding by, expect more pop up showers and storms tomorrow, but in Southern New England.

Friday is dramatically cooler with 70s, as our wind comes in off of the water. We’ll see a mix of sun and clouds, with perhaps a spot shower here or there.

Saturday is a very similar day, before the wind goes south on Sunday, bringing us back into the 80s. We’ll still have a mix of sun and clouds with a shower here or there.

Monday, Labor Day itself, is the warmest day of the weekend with more 80s and a bit more humidity. Even though there still may be a spot shower, it’s important to note that each day this weekend will be mainly dry. Any wet weather will be very isolated and shouldn’t impact outdoor plans in a meaningful way.

Next week looks warmer than average as well.
