Red Sox Reportedly Interested in Mariners Closer Edwin Diaz

The Red Sox are preparing for closer Craig Kimbrel to walk in free agency this winter. Boston is reportedly one of several teams that have expressed strong interest in Seattle Mariners All-Star closer Edwin Diaz.

The 24-year-old closer is coming of a historic season in which he struck out 124 batters in 73-1/2 innings, recorded a 1.96 ERA and saved 57 games, tied for the second highest in baseball history. He finished eighth in the AL Cy Young voting.

Diaz is one of several possible bullpen targets for the Sox this offseason.
