Red Sox Vs. Yankees Rained Out, Doubleheader Scheduled for August 3

The Boston Red Sox were set to open a series against the New York Yankees on Thursday night, but the start will be delayed by one day.

According to the Yankees' official Twitter, Thursday night's game has been rained out. The two teams will make up the game as part of a doubleheader on August 3.

As a result of this postponement, the Red Sox will now play the Yankees in a series of eight games spanning 11 days at the end of July and beginning August, with a four-game series at Fenway Park followed by four games over three days at Yankee Stadium.

Those games against the Yankees in August will also be part of a post-All Star break stretch that sees the team play 21 consecutive games against AL East teams. Needless to say, that stretch could be critical for the team as they look to jockey for playoff positioning in one of the league's most top-heavy divisions.

Also, as a result of the rain-out, Chris Sale's scheduled start will be pushed back one day. He'll pitch on Friday and that will likely bump the rest of the Sox starters back one day as well.
