RI Man Arrested for Showing Off Exotic Animals at Convention

Police say they've seized an alligator, a python and tarantulas from a Rhode Island man who was charging people to take pictures with the creatures at a comic book convention in Massachusetts.

Framingham police confiscated the animals and arrested the 41-year-old Warwick, Rhode Island man on an unrelated warrant. Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect.

"That's wild, literally," said Pat Murphy of Southborough.

"I guess it fits right in with the theme of Comic-Con," added Florence Goliger of Framingham.

Police say they received a tip that the man was charging Super Megafest Comic-Con attendees to take pictures with the animals on Saturday.

"All kinds of people in this world, that's all I can say," said Phil Giuliani of Wellesley.

"I don't think they're really thinking it through," said Frankie Gwynne of Beverly. "I thought Comic-con was supposed to be about dressing up, not bringing the real thing."

Massachusetts Environmental Police have taken over custody of the animals. The suspect was also issued a wildlife summons.
