Rhode Island Man Gets 5 Years for Trafficking Fentanyl

A Rhode Island man is getting five years in prison after pleading guilty to trafficking fentanyl in Connecticut.

The U.S. Attorney's office says a federal judge sentenced 42-year-old Juan Hazard on Monday to 60 months in prison followed by four years of supervised release.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Hazard agreed to meet an individual in April 2017 for a drug transaction in Ledyard, where he was later stopped by investigators.

While stopped, officers found roughly 338 grams of fentanyl in the vehicle.

State authorities arrested the Cranston, Rhode Island resident in 2017 and detained him until he was federally arrested on May 4. He also pleaded guilty in September to one count of possession with intent to distribute 40 grams or more of fentanyl.
