An armed robbery suspect who led officials on an hours-long standoff in Massachusetts after he surrendered to police while holding a baby is being held without bail.

Ivan Andujar, 19, was arraigned Wednesday in Hingham District Court on charges of armed robbery and reckless endangerment of a child. Not guilty pleas were entered on his behalf.

Andujar is accused of robbing a person in a parked car in Rockland on Tuesday. He allegedly entered the car through the passenger door and stole the victim's wallet, cell phone and backpack at gunpoint.

After the alleged robbery, Andujar walked backed to his third-floor apartment on 57 Church St., where police later arrived. After refusing to come out of the building, a SWAT team responded.

The hours-long standoff came to an end after the suspect surrendered while carrying an infant.

"He probably came out with a child because he probably didn’t want anything to happen to him," Michelle Smith, a neighbor, said. "It was probably his defense."

A second suspect, a 17-year-old relative who was already inside the apartment during the barricade, was detained and later released to his mother following questioning.

The standoff caused the building to be evacuated and officials ordered nearby residents to stay indoors.

Andujar is being held without bail until May 20 pending a dangerousness hearing related to a second case out of Boston.
