Fatal Tractor-Trailer Rollover Crash on Massachusetts Turnpike Under Investigation

The crash caused major backups on both sides of the pike for hours

A fatal tractor-trailer rollover crash that caused major delays on the Massachusetts Turnpike Monday afternoon in Boston's Brighton area is under investigation by state police.

Troopers responded to the crash on Interstate 90 westbound at about 1:30 p.m. after receiving numerous 911 calls that a truck had somehow crashed into a median.

When troopers arrived, the driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene.

A representative from R & D Transportation out of Plymouth told NBC10 Boston the driver, a 49-year-old man, worked for them and was heading to Pittsfield from Boston.

"He was a really good guy, we don't know what to say," said the representative.

Company officials could not comment further on the crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash but for hours, only the right travel lanes on both the eastbound and westbound sides of the highway at exit 20 were getting by. Just before 7 p.m., the scene was cleared.

The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
