Lawmakers Stuck in School During Lockdown

Authorities say the teen will face a charge

Weymouth High School was in lockdown for about an hour Thursday afternoon after a 15-year-old student was overheard by another student and teacher saying he had a weapon at the school.

Although no weapon was found, students such as 17-year-old Shane Adams took photos as they watched police surround the school.

He said it was a scary situation.

"After I saw the cops and the rifles and the shotguns pulled out I knew it was real and it got really scary real quick," Adams asid.

"We were very scared, terrified,"said twins Nicole and Samantha Seppala, "It was really nerve-racking."

Parents we spoke to were concerned the school didn't contact them right away. Many found out from their child's text messages what was going on.

"Especially when you're receiving texts from the kids saying how scared they are, shaking and crying, yes," parent Marie Ficociello said.

"She wrote on the text 'if I get out of here' and I was like oh god let me get to the school," parent Jennifer Kabachus said.

Superintendent Kenneth Salim contends they alerted parents as soon as they could.

"As soon as we were able to confirm information we did have a message go out to all the high school families," Dr. Salim said.

"Everyone did exactly what they were supposed to do, the school officials were great and the officers did their job as the plan had indicated," Weymouth Police Capt. Joe Comperchio said.

Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo happened to be inside Weymouth High for a mock trial when the lock down went into effect. He said that as a lawmaker, it was an important learning experience.

"You read a report later, But to actually go though it is somewhat of a different feeling, because you're not knowing what's going on and your first question is it's probably nothing, but then you day, can you say that in this day and age," DeLeo said.
