US Sen. Elizabeth Warren Lauds Opioid Bill at Forum

Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren is promoting a federal bill that could alter the devastation of the opioid crisis in her home state of Massachusetts.

The Cape Cod Times reports Warren, a co-sponsor of the $100 billion spending bill, spoke Saturday to a crowd of more than 200 people at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in Harwich.

Warren says an average 115 people die in opioid-related deaths each day in the U.S., and that her bill is modeled after the Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency Act of 1990 because of the stigma tied to both diseases.

At least $2.7 million a year would support outreach and treatment programs on Cape Cod if the bill passes.

Warren also met with Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe leaders Saturday to talk about how the epidemic has influenced their community.
