Several Homes Still Without Gas in Lawrence Following Friday's Scare

Following Friday's gas leak, Columbia Gas restored gas service to nearly all homes and businesses in South Lawrence.

The company said it could not get into the properties and will continue to attempt to contact customers to turn their gas back on.

Residents on South Broadway Street were evacuated on Friday. The gas main has since been pressure tested, and door-to-door safety checks have been performed, according to the company.

Customers who chose not to return home on Saturday are encouraged to call 1-866-388-3239 on Sunday to have their gas service restored.

"We once again would like to apologize for the disruption this has caused our customers in South Lawrence," Columbia Gas said in a statement. "We also thank local and state officials and first responders for their partnership over the past two days as we worked to safely restore gas service to the area."

On Sept. 13, 2018, a series of explosions caused by over-pressurized natural gas lines overseen by Columbia Gas rocked the Merrimack Valley.
