Severe Delays for MBTA's Green Line D Branch Due to Power Problem

The MBTA had big problems Friday, with three of the lines were affected at different times of the day.

Issues on the Green Line persisted into the night. There were large crowds at the Riverside stop as service on part of that line's D branch came to a standstill and shuttle buses were brought in.

The problems on the Green Line began when a tree toppled over onto a power line Friday afternoon at the Newton Centre stop, cutting service between Reservoir and Riverside.

"I got here about 45 minutes ago and all they told me was not to schlep my suitcase up the stairs because there were no trains," said
Peggy Bowe, who came in from western Massachusetts to go to Emerson's alumni weekend.

This is the third instance of major delays on the T on Friday. There were major Orange Line delays during a massive power outage and an undetermined issue on the Blue Line earlier on Friday.

All of the power problems resulted in delays.

After a dreadful winter on the T, many were hoping the problems were long gone.

"While we fully acknowledge that today has been a frustrating day for our customers, today was also highly unusual," the MBTA said in a statement. "As always, the MBTA deeply appreciates the loyalty of its customers demonstrate [sic], and the T will continue to work day in and day out to continue making improvements to run a system that is safe, efficient, reliable, and that lives up to the quality of service that our customers deserve."
