Police have lifted a shelter in place for Amesbury, Massachusetts, residents as officials continue to look for a violent and extremely aggressive dog that attacked a person Sunday morning.
A dog, described as a brown pit bull, attacked a person near Whitehall Road, and was last seen heading toward Friend Street.
Amesbury residents near the Whitehall Lake Drive Condos, Barbara Drive, Pamela Lane and Unicorn Circle areas off of Whitehall Road had been asked to stay in their homes until the dog has been found and caught; however, police lifted the shelter-in-place just before 5 p.m. despite the dog not being caught because there had been no recent sightings.
The pit bull was tracked to that area, and police say they received multiple reports of the dog running loose in the neighborhoods.
Police add they dog should be considered dangerous, as it is most likely scared and likely to attack again. Residents are warned to not approach the dog.
Residents were also asked to not go to Woodson Farm to walk their dogs, as it had been temporarily closed for safety concerns.
Animal control officers and Amesbury police are actively attempting to locate the dog.
