Shy Bird Plans to Open in Cambridge's Kendall Square

by Marc Hurwitz

A new restaurant may be on its way to Cambridge, and it has a connection to at least two of the most popular dining spots in the Boston area.

According to a source (William Simpkins), Shy Bird is planning to open in Kendall Square, with our source indicating that the group behind Eastern Standard in Boston's Kenmore Square and Branch Line in Watertown will be behind this place as well. This news has been confirmed in a just-posted licensing commission hearing agenda page within the city's website, saying that the place would have seating for 89 inside, a total occupancy of 140 inside, and a seasonal patio, and the manager listed is Andrew Holden, who is indeed involved with both Eastern Standard and Branch Line. It is not known for sure if Garrett Harker is involved (Harker is behind both restaurants along with Row 34 in the Seaport District, Hawthorne in Kenmore Square, and Island Creek Oyster Bar in Kenmore Square and Burlington), and it has not yet been confirmed that Shy Bird will have a direct or indirect connection to the restaurant group that oversees all of these places, so stay tuned for updates.

If approved, Shy Bird will be located by the corner of Third Street and Broadway, with the exact address being 390 Third Street.
