Olympic Skiier Nolan Kasper's Uphill Battle to Get Back to Racing

Vermont native and alpine skier Nolan Kasper is headed to Pyeongchang to compete on the U.S. Team at the Winter Olympic Games.

On Friday, Kasper was in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire preparing to compete in the World Pro Ski Tour.

This is the third time Kasper will compete in the Winter Olympic Games.

"It's definitely an amazing feeling," said Kasper.

Especially considering where Kasper's come from.

"I've had seven surgeries in the past seven years now so I've had my fair share of bumps and bruises,"said Kasper. "I've spent countless hours rehabbing in the gym working out on snow. I train a lot."

It's been an uphill battle for Kasper to be back to racing.

"It takes a lot to come back to a competitive level," Kasper said. "For us it's the love of the sport and why we keep doing it."

Kasper's been skiing since he was three years old.

"It's been my life," Kasper said. "I can't remember a time when I haven't been skiing."

Kasper is spending the week before heading to the World Pro Ski Tour in Waterville Valley in New Hampshire.

"We're doing a dual panel slalom," Kasper said. "Friday's qualifications so the top 32 racers will advance to the knock out rounds tomorrow."

Kasper credits his consistency with keeping him in the top tier of athletes.

"It's tough coming back from this many injuries, but I'm gonna go out there and compete as well as I can and see what happens," said Kasper. There's no other option for me."

Kasper heads to Pyeongchang on February 17th.
