Snow is on the way Saturday for most of southern New England, beginning tonight in the west, spreading and filling in eastward through the overnight hours.
The most accumulation will likely be along and south of the Mass. Pike with plowable snow.
The system will fill in from west to east and mainly for southern New England and as the system exits the area by Sunday morning, we could see some lingering snow showers skimming the New Hampshire seacoast, and the Maine coastline.
For Connecticut, Rhode Island, southern Massachusetts, you’re looking at 3 to 5 inches of snow through early Sunday morning with a few locations under the heaviest snow bands accruing possible 6 inches in Connecticut.
Elsewhere, plan on 1 to 3 inches as temperatures, timing, and wind direction will have an impact on snowfall totals.
For the Cape & Islands, it’s highly likely that warmer air will impact with the snowfall totals there as rain will mix in for the majority of the event.

As far as impacts, there could be a time through the overnight that 1 to 2 inches per hour snowfall rates are possible, so be sure to take it slow on travels if you drive through one of these snow bands. This is a quick moving system, and departs Sunday morning, leaving behind another sun-filled and mild day, allowing for some melting of the recent snowfall. Highs are expected to climb into the mid to upper 40s south, upper 30s north.
As we look ahead to next week’s pattern, we’re already tracking warmer air from the southwest sliding in for midweek. Monday brings partly cloudy skies and chance for afternoon showers with highs near 50. Tuesday and Wednesday could easily reach into the 60s, which could tie or break record high temperatures ahead of a looming cold front out towards the west.
We could see another round of showers late Wednesday into early Thursday as the front slides in. High temperatures slide back into the low to mid 40s by the end of the week, but that’s still well above normal for this time of the year.
