St. John's Prep Faculty Member on Leave After Sex Abuse Allegation

St. John's Prep in Massachusetts has announced that a faculty member is on leave after being accused of sexually abusing a minor.

The Danvers school says Brother Bob Flaherty is being investigated in Baltimore for allegations dating back to the 1980s. The allegations do not involve St. John's Prep, where Flaherty worked from 1999 to 2007 and from 2010 until Saturday, when he was placed on indefinite administrative leave.

"We are committed to being transparent with our community and to ensuring the safety and well-being of all of our students, summer program participants and community members," Headmaster Edward Hardiman said in a statement.

According to the school, the Baltimore city State's Attorney's Office began investigating after the allegation was reported to police. The Xaverian Brothers, which has removed Flaherty from active ministry, notified St. John's Prep.
