Storm Arriving Overnight to Bring Strong Winds, Heavy Rain for Some

The storm passes offshore but still close enough to bring rain, strong winds and a chance for freezing rain

After some morning sun over the Merrimack Valley and the Granite State, clouds gradually increase this afternoon with most of southern New England under a grey sky. The one exception will be ski country where the sun will dominate most of the day.

Highs today will remain in the 30s north, with 40s south.

A coastal storm currently off the Carolina Coast will move in our direction tonight. It passes offshore but still close enough to bring rain, strong winds and a chance for freezing rain for areas away from the coast, especially across western and central Massachusetts and northern New England.

Highs will be in the 30s inland while 40s to around 50 degrees near the coast.

In Southeastern Massachusetts, winds will gust up to 50 mph, with gusts 20-40 mph elsewhere. The impact of the strong wind will cause some minor splash over, beach erosion and minor coastal flooding, especially during the afternoon high tide between the hours of 2 and 5 p.m.

This storm pulls away by Tuesday, leaving some snow on the backside for areas in northern New England.
