Suspect Identified in “Chemical Suicide” That Hospitalized 11

A Massachusetts man who authorities say killed himself with chemical gases that sent 11 other people to the hospital has been identified.

The Lowell Sun reported Friday that the man was 31-year-old Sean Patrick of Lowell.

Police say the suspect was apparently distraught over a failing relationship and died after releasing chemical gases in an apartment in Lowell Thursday. Authorities haven't identified the chemicals, but believe they included hydrogen and sulfur.

Four police officers and three emergency medical workers were exposed to the gases and taken to a hospital. Four residents of the building also were taken to a hospital. Authorities say all 11 people are expected to be OK.

The Sun reported the FBI became involved in the investigation because of undisclosed information found on Patrick's computer.
