A man accused of stealing a car and leading police on a high speed chase has been arrested in Salem, New Hampshire.
The suspect was identified by authorities as Joseph Haynes, 30, of Tewksbury, Massachusetts.
According to police, an officer located a stolen vehicle in the parking lot of the Park View Inn at 109 South Broadway just after 9:45 a.m. Sunday.
The vehicle had been reported stolen in November in Florida, police said. It had also been involved in a lengthy and dangerous high speed chase in Massachusetts earlier in the month.
Officers investigated the vehicle and learned the person believed to be in possession of the vehicle had an active arrest warrant from Broward County, Florida. They also discovered that the man was a suspect in a shooting which took place earlier this month in Haverhill, Massachusetts.
Officers obtained a photo of the man, who was later identified as Haynes, and confirmed the man was a guest at the Park View Inn. They also learned that Haynes was staying with a woman and possibly young children.
According to police, they were able to make contact with Haynes in his room. He refused to identify himself, but officers were able to observe him and confirm that he was the suspect with the active warrants.

Police tried many times to speak with Haynes, but he refused to leave the room or confirm who was in the room with him. It was later learned that he was in the room with a female aquaintance and no children, police said.
The Southern New Hampshire Special Operations Unit was activated because Haynes refused to leave his room and because of the seriousness of his alleged crimes.
Crisis Negotiators were able to take Haynes into custody after several hours of discussions.
Haynes will be processed on one fugitive from justice charge, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.
