Syringes Found in Roxbury Schoolyard: Report

Two discarded needles were reportedly found in a Roxbury schoolyard on Thursday, causing concern and complaints.

The Boston Herald reports the syringes, one of them filled with a brown liquid, were found at Orchard Gardens K-8 Pilot School by a reporter and photographer. The unsettling discovery came after the grounds were swept by a city worker, the Herald said.

School officials contacted 311 and a Boston Public Health Commission worker responded.

Thursday’s finding comes after a student came into contact with a needle at the school in October. The child found a syringe during recess at Orchard Gardens’ playground.

In response to the needles being found on campus, parents, teachers and community members were planning to hold a “safety walk out” on Tuesday.
