Taunton Mailman Arrested for Larceny

A mailman in Taunton, Massachusetts was arrested and charged with larceny after stealing money from a woman's purse.

According to police, they responded to Cumberland Farms on Main Street in Wareham at about 7:40 a.m. Saturday.

The victim told the officer that at about 6:50 a.m. she put her purse down on a counter and walked to the back of the store. When she came back, she realized that over $60 was stolen from the purse.

A review of the security footage showed that a customer in a U.S. Postal uniform had reached into her purse and taken the money, police said.

Upon further investigation, police learned that the suspect was an employee of the Postal Service in the Taunton area.

Taunton police were contacted. They then placed the suspect under arrest at about 12:15 p.m.

According to Taunton police, the suspect, Thomas Medeiros, 63, of Wareham, was arrested on his postal route in their city.

Medeiros was then transported to Wareham.

Police were able to recover the stolen money.

Medeiros was released on bail.

He is set to appear in Wareham District Court on Monday morning.

He is charged with larceny from a person. It is unclear if he has an attorney.
