Tavern in the Square in Allston Has Closed for Renovations; Rebranding May Be Taking Place

by Marc Hurwitz

A local group of dining and drinking spots has closed one of its locations, and it looks like it may reopen with changes to its name and concept.

According to a poster on the Friends of Boston's Hidden Restaurants Facebook group page, Tavern in the Square in Allston shut down over the weekend for renovations, with a Facebook post from the Brighton Avenue place seeming to confirm this, saying "keep your eyes peeled for our re-opening in August" while an Instagram poster says "RIP" to the spot. The poster on the group page states that the Allston location of Tavern in the Square--which first opened in 2010--plans to reopen as "Tavern" and it will have a similar concept to that of The Broadway in South Boston (which is under the same ownership), though none of this has been confirmed as of yet.

It looks like other locations of Tavern in the Square at North Station, South Station, Burlington, Littleton, Lowell, Northborough, Salem, and Shrewsbury remain in operation.

The address for Tavern in the Square in Allston is 161 Brighton Avenue, Allston, MA, 02134. The website for all locations can be found at https://www.taverninthesquare.com/
