Teen Accused in Friend's Suicide Appears in Court

Michelle Carter is accused of encouraging Conrad Roy III to take his own life

A Massachusetts teenager accused of encouraging her friend to take his own life appeared in court on Tuesday.

18-year-old Michelle Carter of Plainville appeared as a juvenile in the New Bedford courtroom, according to necn affiliate WJAR. She was 17 when the alleged incident happened.

The judge scheduled a motion to dismiss for August 24.

Carter was charged in February with involuntary manslaughter for the July 2014 death of 18-year-old Conrad Roy III.

Roy, of Mattapoisett, was an honor roll student at King Philip Regional High School in Wrentham.

Carter is currently out on bail.
