The Wholy Grain in Boston's South End Has Closed; Chilacates to Replace It

by Marc Hurwitz

A bakery-cafe in the South End has shut its doors, and a growing local group of highly-regarded Mexican restaurants will be moving into its space.

According to a Facebook post, The Wholy Grain on Shawmut Avenue has closed, with the note saying that "it's with great sadness that we have to let you know that we have sold The Wholy Grain as we prepare for our next adventure. We will miss you terribly as you have become such great friends, but we hope to see you all day to day in the neighborhood." The post goes on to say that Chilacates will be opening in its space, joining other locations of the Mexican eatery in Jamaica Plain (two) along with upcoming outlets in Mission Hill and Chestnut Hill.

The Wholy Grain, which first opened in the winter of 2011, was a neighborhood spot that offered such items as scones, croissants, muffins, cupcakes, soups, salads, sandwiches, coffee, tea, and a variety of breads.

The address for the now-closed Wholy Grain (and upcoming Chilacates) is 275 Shawmut Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118.
