    Investigating Continues in Topsfield Shooting

    Investigators in Topsfield, Mass., are continuing their probe into the shooting of a woman at her home Saturday afternoon. The woman, identified as a 64-year-old resident, is expected to recover after the incident.

    A 64-year-old woman was shot inside her Topsfield home Saturday afternoon but police confirmed Sunday afternoon that the bullet was fired from somewhere outside.

    On Sunday afternoon, Topsfield Police Chief Evan Haglund confirmed in an email that the bullet that struck the resident was fired from outside the home. No further information was provided.

    The Topsfield Fire Department first announced the incident, saying fire personell rushed the as-yet unidentified woman from her house on Juniper Lane to Beverly Hospital just after 4:25 p.m.

    Topsfield Police Chief Evan Haglund said later Saturday that the victim was shot once in the chest. A family member was home at the time but is not a suspect. No arrests have been made.

    When asked whether it was known yet what led up to the shots being fired, Haglund simply responded that the incident is under investigation.

    Haglund said the woman's injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening.


    A shooting in Topsfield on Saturday afternoon resulted in a gunshot victim being transported from Juniper Lane to an area hospital, the Topsfield Fire Department announced. Crews were no longer on the scene as of the fire department's 4:45 p.m. statement. The incident remains under investigation.
