A parent punched a school bus driver over something the driver had said to a child Tuesday morning in Cambridge, according to a preliminary police investigation.
No has yet been arrested and charges haven't been filed in the incident, which took place at Rindge Ave. just off Alewife Brook Parkway just before 7:15 a.m., according to Cambridge police. The driver was taken to a hospital.
The parent, a 29-year-old man, was upset about something the driver said, according the preliminary information from police. It wasn't immediately clear what was said.
The parent confronted the driver, 45, and ended up punching the man in the face in the ensuing confrontation. They had to be separated, police said.
The driver complained of head pain and was brought to the hospital.
The driver was released from the hospital, a supervisor at the Eastern Bus Company told NBC10 Boston. The supervisor didn't comment on the incident further.
Students should feel safe on the bus, the Cambridge school superintendent said in a statement, and witnessing something like this at the bus stop is troubling.

The school district is "working with the transportation company and local officials to ensure the matter is investigated and appropriate actions are taken," Superintendent Kenneth Salim said.
