On Wednesday, May 16th at 6:30 pm at the Tynan School – 650 East Fourth Street, the MBTA will be hosting an Open House to discuss improvements in making Southie bus service faster, safer, and more accessible. The public is invited to share thoughts and questions with the MBTA and City of Boston staff. Here we go again…..

Coffee talk! Mayor Marty Walsh will be hosting a neighborhood coffee hour on Thursday, May 17th at 9 am at Flaherty Park – 130 B Street. ll participants will enjoy coffee and treats provided by Dunkin’ Donuts.  In addition, each family in attendance will receive a flowering plant grown in the city’s greenhouses as a gift from Mayor Walsh.  Fresh fruit will be provided by Whole Foods.

Pitch in! It’s the City of Boston Neighborhood Clean Up in Southie on Saturday, May 19th. Be prepared to clean up community gardens, parks, schools, sidewalks and public spaces. To volunteer email our neighborhood liaison john.allison@boston.gov

Treats by the ocean! Molly Moo’s at Carson Beach is officially open for the season. Serving up breakfast, lunch and dinner, Molly Moo’s also features ice cream and this year Hawaiian shave ice! They are opened daily from 10am-10pm.

Swing into Spring! The Lawn on D celebrates the first family event of the season this weekend! On Saturday, May 19th from noon to 11 pm, enjoy hands-on activities all day, bands for kids during the day, bands for grown-up kids at night!

Mix & Mingle! Candidate for State Rep. Fourth Suffolk District Matt Rusteika is kicking off his campaign with party & fundraiser at the Seapoint. Stop by on Thursday, May 17th from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm and learn about his campaign!

Traffic alert! The 17th Annual Harpoon 5-Miler to benefit The Angel Fund for ALS research is on Sunday May 20th at 10:00 am. Expect delays on Summer Street, and around Pleasure Bay between 10 am and 11 am. The race starts at the Harpoon Brewery in the Seaport district and runs over the Summer Street Bridge to East 1st Street, to Farragut to East Broadway to Day Blvd, to Shore Road and back via East 1st Street. East 1st Street and Summer Street between Drydock Ave and East 1st Street will be closed. Questions or concerns: email Jessie at 5miler@harpoon.com.
