Two people donated wheelchairs to a 6-year-old girl after hers was stolen from outside her Brighton home.
Maliyah has cerebral palsy and depends on her wheelchair to get anywhere she wants to go. Her wheelchair was stolen Friday, just a few days before she was set to go to camp.
"It's tragic what happened; it makes me angry," Keith Roberts, the girl's father said. “That somebody would come and steal a wheelchair from a child. It's clearly a children’s wheelchair. It’s specially designed for her.”
Maliyah's parents asked neighbors if they had seen anyone take the wheelchair.
"I started to call people asking if they had it, if they moved it," Maliyah’s mother, Gabriella Rodriguez, said. "I went through the basement to see if somebody brought it in."
One of the wheelchairs given to Maliyah is too big for the child to use. Her family is asking for the return of her chair.
"We all just want it back. Come in the middle of the night and just drop it off," said her grandmother, Marina Rodriguez. "Leave it in the driveway where it was to begin with. That's all. She can't get around without it."
