Woman Posing as Cleaning Help in Alleged Break-In Attempt Appears in Court

26-year-old Diana Berrera, of Boston, was arrested and charged with breaking and entering

A woman accused of trying to break into a home in Watertown, Massachusetts appeared in court Monday.

Police say Diana Berrera, 26, posed as a window cleaner when she approached a home on Buick Street on Sunday.

She was arrested later in the day and charged with breaking and entering.

Barrera did not appear in court the first time the judge called her case on Monday. She appeared at the second calling with her face covered, which was not allowed in the courtroom.

Because of that and the warrant for her arrest, the judge ordered Barrera to be detained and meet with her attorney about the courtroom policies and her case.

Mike Pepe's doorbell caught Berrera's movement on camera.

"Usually I just see my kid leaving the house or the mailman coming,” Pepe said.

Pepe’s doorbell records video when it recognizes movement. Sunday afternoon there was movement across the street at his neighbor’s home.

A woman can be seen carrying a ladder from the garage to the back of the house.

A neighbor, who wished to remain nameless, said she saw Berrera in the backyard.

She asked Berrera what she was doing and Berrera allegedly said she was working for the family.

The neighbor then drove to Pepe’s house after she saw Berrera climb the ladder and clean a window while wearing rubber gloves.

"(The neighbor) came over to my house and said, ‘Hey, someone is over there and said they were cleaning windows,’” Pepe recalled. “I knew no one was supposed to be over there."

Pepe called the police and about 45 minutes later they arrested Berrera.

Berrera declined to answer NBC10 Boston's questions as she left the police department Sunday night.
