Woman Dies After Being Struck, Pinned by Tractor-Trailer

The 24-year-old was hit and trapped under the truck in Kelley Square, a busy intersection beside an interchange with I-290

A woman who was struck and gravely injured by a tractor-trailer Thursday night in Worcester, Massachusetts, has died from her injuries.

Worcester Police say 24-year-old Sara Ewing of Hudson was hit and trapped under the truck in Kelley Square, a busy intersection beside an interchange with I-290. Officials say the tractor-trailer was entering Kelley Square from the east and pulled to the right side of the road to let a fire truck pass.

Afterwards the tractor-trailer entered Kelley Square, cut a turn too close and struck a light pole. The pole fell, and Ewing and a man, who were standing near it, were forced into the truck's path as it was turning. Ewing was run over by the two rear wheels and was pinned.

Ewing was pinned under the tractor-trailer until officials were able to free her. She was rushed to a hospital, where she died from her injuries.

The man suffered a serious foot injury because the wheels ran over his foot.

The crash caused I-290 westbound to close at the Kelley Square exit.
