Tonya Carpenter was struck by a broken bat during Friday night's Red Sox game.

A woman's condition is improving after she was struck by a broken bat at Boston's Fenway Park Friday night.

Tonya Carpenter, 44, was struck in the head by a bat that broke on a swing by Oakland's Brett Lawrie in the second inning of Boston's 4-2 win. She was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

On Monday, Carpenter's family released a statement on her condition:

"Tonya is responsive, and her condition has been upgraded from serious to fair. We would like to thank everyone for their continued support, especially the fans at Fenway Park, first responders, Boston EMS, Boston Police and her care team at Beth Israel Deaconess."

The victim's young son was with her at the time of the incident.
