Teen Arrested For Allegedly Assaulting Woman Walking With Baby

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after a woman was assaulted while walking with her baby in Wareham Sunday morning.

According to police, the woman was walking on 11th Street near Waban Avenue at about 10:15 a.m. Sunday when the boy pulled down her pants.

"He came up behind her and he grabbed her pants and basically pulled down her pants down to her ankles," officials said.

The woman took a photo of the suspect as he fled on 11th Street. There were no other witnesses, police said.

After interviews and leads, authorities located the suspect, and the clothes from the pictures, at his home Sunday night— about a block from where the assault occurred. Police say the suspect's parents or guardians were busy all day and weren't aware authorities were looking for somebody.

The victim told responding police that she observed a man on East Boulevard and then a few moments later the man came up behind her and physically assaulted her before running off.

"I'm bothered with it to the point that something like that has not happened before," a Wareham resident said.

The woman was not injured.

The boy can only be held for six hours, so the question now is whether the boy will go to a detention center or be released to his guardians.
