Police Investigating Death of Body Found Near Salvation Army Donation Bin as Homicide

The grisly discovery was made after Salvation Army workers found the body near a donation bin in the parking lot

Authorities are investigating the death of a person whose body was found near a Salvation Army donation bin in Worcester, Massachusetts as a homicide.

Salvation Army workers discovered the body just before 10 a.m. Monday near 27 Cambridge St., according to officials. Authorities have not released the name of the victim.

"It's just so devastating that something like this happened," said Liz, a Salvation Army worker. "When I walked into the office, someone told me what happened. I thought they were kidding around, I thought they were joking."

Investigators collected evidence at the scene through nightfall. Worcester Police Lt. Sean Murtha said the department aims to do a thorough job and called the process timely.

"Get all the evidence we can — looking for DNA, small fibers," he said.

The cause of death remains under investigation.
