No one was inside the building at the time of collapse

NBC 10 Boston

An abandoned building's roof partially collapsed Wednesday morning in Gloucester, Mass. after an apparent buildup of water on a section of the roof, according to Gloucester police.

The building is located on 80 Commercial Street on the waterfront. Police said no one was injured and that there was no one inside the building at the time of the collapse.

Images from the scene show the roof caved in and cinder blocks littered around the edge of the building. Police said a section of the building's wall collapsed along with the 5000 square foot roof.

Police said a gas leak occurred as a result of this building collapse. No resident in the area should be affected but officials urge any person without service to contact National Grid.

Several agencies responded to the scene and an investigation is now underway.

Traffic will be restricted on Commercial Drive until demolition of building is completed. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.
