After Fire, American Provisions in South Boston Looks to Open New Shop in Dorchester in 2018

by Marc Hurwitz

Early last year, we reported that an artisanal "farm-to-table" grocery store in South Boston was planning to expand with a second shop on the way to an upcoming Dorchester development. Now we have learned that plans for the store are still moving ahead even after a fire heavily damaged the complex over the summer, but it won't be opening for awhile now.

According to an article in Eater Boston, American Provisions is now looking to open in the Trademark Building on Dorchester Avenue in the fall of 2018, with owner Matt Thayer saying that the shop will open in the same space as originally planned and that it will still include a full kitchen, which will allow it to offer more in the way of prepared foods than the original store in Southie. (It will also allow them to do catering and host events, according to Eater.) The Trademark Building was ravaged by a fire last June, though the building was not considered a total loss and is in the process of being rebuilt.

The original location of American Provisions can be found at 613 E. Broadway in South Boston. Its website is at http://americanprovisions.com/
