Ailing Fisherman Airlifted to Hospital From 60 Miles Off Martha's Vineyard

The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a fisherman 60 miles southeast off Martha's Vineyard after calls for a medical emergency

A U.S. Coastguard helicopter rescued an injured fisherman 60 miles off of Martha’s Vineyard on Friday, officials said.

The call came in around 6 p.m. from a commercial fishing vessel named Persistence, according to a Coast Guard news release. A 50-year-old member of the crew was showing stroke-like symptoms. 

A Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter was able to safely hoist the fisherman from the ship at 7:30 p.m. The man was flown to Providence Hospital for treatment, officials said.
