Police: Intruder Arrested After Dog Alerts Homeowners to Break-In

Authorities in Massachusetts are crediting a "devoted and alert" pet dog for helping catch an alleged home intruder.

Yarmouth police responded to a call of an intruder at a home on Sullivan Road around 2 a.m. on Tuesday. Police say the family dog's barks woke the homeowners, who were able to call 911 as the alleged intruder ran away.

Police spotted a man matching the description given by the homeowners walking nearby. The man, identified by police as Joseph Parent, 28, of Hyannisport, was arrested. Police say Parent was also carrying multiple pills and Suboxone strips at the time of his arrest.

According to police, this is not Parent’s first encounter with local authorities.

Parent is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on multiple charges of drug possession and breaking and entering. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
