Are Boston's Squirrels Too Fat?

Apparently, out-of-towners are talking. And they've reached a consensus: Bostons' squirrels are overweight.

According to the Boston Globe, online reviews of both the Boston Common and the Public Garden are starting to include comments about the size of the animals.

"They're just so much chubbier than squirrels everywhere," Susan Abell, a spokesperson for the Friends of the Public Garden, told the Globe. Veterinarian Greg Mertz took it a step further, calling the squirrels "obese."

Part of the problem appears to be that they're being overfed - by tourists and Bostonians alike. Because of the large numbers of people who visit the Common every day, there is also a ton of discarded food to snack on.
