An investigation is underway after a man was found dead at the bottom of an outdoor stairwell in South Boston, police have confirmed.
Authorities responded to a report of a body on East Broadway shortly before 9 a.m.
Witness Conner David told NBC10 Boston that he was out walking his dog in his new neighborhood when something in the stairwell caught his attention.
“I just moved in yesterday and took him for a walk this morning to get a coffee,” David said.

Once David nudged the body, he said he realized the man was dead. He immediately called 911.
“He wasn’t in a position that looked natural. It looked like he probably fell," he said. “With the weather, I don’t know if he was trying to get out of the rain and maybe fell, but yeah — not something I ever want to see again.”
Brad Greenway tells NBC10 Boston he returned home to find crime scene investigators next door.

"It’s definitely shocking,” Greenway said. "Police were outside. They just asked for my information — if I heard anything. Unfortunately, I didn’t. But hopefully they can figure things out.”
Boston Police homicide investigators, as well as employees from the city's Inspectional Services department, were also at the scene during the day.
Authorities have not confirmed the identity of the victim or cause of death.
