Crews searched for a man who went missing Thursday evening in a lake in North Andover, Massachusetts.

State police first confirmed a person had been reported to be missing in the water on Great Pond Road. That street runs along the southern end of Lake Cochichewick.

Fire officials say the missing person is a 21-year-old man. He was with four other people on a raft. When two males went in the water, only one resurfaced.

The North Andover Fire Department was notified about the incident around 5:45 p.m.

Just before 10 p.m., crews said they had stopped searching for the night. The search, now being treated as a recovery effort, will resume in the morning.

The Massachusetts State Police Airwing helicopter is over the scene assisting North Andover Fire in the search.
