Bear Killed After Being Struck by Van

A cub she was with was not hurt and wildlife officials say the cub is old enough to survive on its own

A female bear struck by a van last week in Ware, Massachusetts, had to be put down, but experts say the cub with the bear can survive on its own.

The bear was struck Frohloff Farm on Friday. It was euthanized.

A cub she was with was not hurt and wildlife officials say the cub is old enough to survive on its own. A larger, male bear was also near the accident.

Residents in the Gilbertville section of Hardwick, about four miles northeast of Ware, tell the Telegram & Gazette they saw a large bear and a cub head into the woods Thursday.
