The Boston Free Speech group called for the rally and the Boston Antifa supporters reacted by organizing a counter-protest.
While the climate in the Boston Common was contentious with chanting, yelling, and name-calling among the couple of hundred demonstrators on each side, police did an effective job of containing the crowds. The police created a one hundred yard gap separating the groups. There were two arrests for affray, according to Boston Police. [[422186333, C]]
The Boston Free Speech supporters occupied the rotunda, while their adversaries from Boston Antifa took the hill.
Occasionally a person from one of the groups would get close to the opposition, but police interceded to tamp down the confrontations.
