One of the oldest dive bars in the Boston area has shut down, and it looks like it could be making way for new development.
Sully's in Quincy closed its doors on Saturday night, with the Chestnut Street watering hole apparently being at least one business that may be replaced by East of Chestnut, a proposed residential and retail complex that would join the existing West of Chestnut across the street.
According to an historical walk events page from several years back, Sully's first opened in 1935 and was considered the oldest continuously operating bar in the city, with three generations of Sullivans being behind the place.
Sully's is known in part for its iconic neon sign, with a picture of it being shown at the Boston's Hidden Restaurants link below:
