1 Dead, 1 Injured in Boston Shooting

One person is dead and another is injured after a shooting in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood.

The deadly shootout happened on Washington Street near Jamaica Plain in the Egleston Square area. Police responded around 3:30 p.m. and found two men in their late 30s suffering from gunshot wounds.

"I was just practicing my bass and then I heard gunshots," said neighbor Aidan Phipps.

He wasn't the only one startled by the gunfire in the middle of the afternoon.

"I heard like 12, pop, pop, pop," said Rosana Rivera, who was working on a woman's eyebrows inside the Latino Beauty Salon. "Suddenly, one of our clients came in and said, 'I was in an Uber car and all the back window was destroyed.' She said somebody came out of the bodega and [started] shooting next to the Uber, and she was crying and we tried to console her."

Neither the passenger nor the Uber driver was injured, even though they were in the middle of the crossfire.

Boston Police say two men got into an argument on Washington Street when they opened fire on each other.

One stumbled into the Chauncey Liquor Mart.

"He fell to the floor and he passed away," said clerk Jose Hernandez.

Boston Police Commissioner William Gross said that man was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The other man is in critical condition.

Police said both of the guns used in the shootout were recovered at the scene.

This is the city's fourth homicide of the new year.

"This isn't some fantasy from a TV show where it's cool to carry guns," Gross said. "We're tired of this in Boston."
