Travelers heading to Boston's Logan Airport are being warned of airline residual delays after a temporary ground stop at New York City's LaGuardia Airport Friday morning was lifted following a spike in sick calls with air traffic control at other airports.
A Massport spokesperson said passengers should check with their airlines for the latest developments regarding their flights, and that the agency was monitoring the situation.
At Logan, flights departing to LaGuardia have been delayed for about 45 minutes to an hour.
The ground stop came on the 35th day of the ongoing partial government shutdown, the longest in U.S. history. Airline executives had warned the shutdown was pushing the country's aviation system to a "tipping point" on Thursday.
FAA officials say the ground stop at LaGuardia was due to a rise in sick calls within air traffic controls at other airports, specifically in the Washington, D.C. area and in Florida, resulting in a ripple effect that delayed flights elsewhere in the country.
According to the White House, President Donald Trump has been briefed on the issue and is monitoring the situation.
