A polling location in Boston has reopened after a poll worker found an envelope with an unknown powder inside, sparking a hazmat response Tuesday afternoon.
Boston Fire officials say they were notified of the incident at 735 Shawmut Ave., a polling location in the city's Roxbury neighborhood, just after 4:30 p.m.
A hazmat team on the scene tested the material inside of the envelope, and deemed it not to be innocuous and not suspicious in nature, according to police.
The fire department said the substance was determined to be baking soda, and it was located inside an envelope with an absentee ballot.
First-time voter Yvette Robinson called the whole episode "scary," saying the entire incident lasted about 20 to 25 minutes.
"I was walking in and some officers came in and said that somebody noticed a white substance in an envelope," she said.
Robinson said she was able to vote once it was determined that there was no threat.
