Boston Market in the Back Bay/Fenway Area Has Closed

A struggling restaurant chain that got its start in the Boston area has closed its only remaining location within the city itself.

According to a Twitter post from @TheDrewStarr, Boston Market in the city's Back Bay/Fenway area is no longer in business, with a sign out front at the Mass. Ave. space referring customers to its Medford and Saugus locations. This appears to be one of the 45 locations of the chain (approximately 10% of all its shops) that have shut down over the past few weeks, as a Nation's Restaurant News article mentions the outlets were underperforming, while CEO Frances Allen says that "We must take steps to ensure our operational structure will support long-term sustainability." While this is the last location of Boston Market within the city limits (a Dorchester location also recently closed), four locations remain in operation inside Route 128 according to its website, including the aforementioned shops in Medford and Saugus along with two others in Waltham and Quincy.

Boston Market started out in Newton as Boston Chicken in the mid-1980s, moving its headquarters to Colorado in the 1990s and eventually changing over to its current Boston Market name. The chain is known in part for its rotisserie chicken options.

The address for this now-closed location of Boston Market was 245 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA, 02115. The website for the chain can be found at https://www.bostonmarket.com/
