Boy Struck and Injured by Vehicle in Tewksbury

Police are investigating after a 7-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle in Tewksbury, Massachusetts on Wednesday.

Police say the incident happened around 5 p.m. today on Pratt Street, and that the driver is a nurse who tried to help the boy and stayed on the scene until authorities arrived.

The boy was thrown from his bike and sustained injuries that are described as serious, including a head injury. He was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time.

However, police say that he was conscious as he was flown by medical helicopter to Tufts Medical Center in Boston for treatment. The boy is expected to pull through.

The boy is from Malden and was visiting family in the area. Locals told NBC10 Boston that the street can get busy because it is off of a main throughway.
