A police officer was struck by a car while chasing an alleged shoplifter at the South Shore Plaza Saturday evening, according to authorities.
The female officer was knocked to the ground, but only sustained minor injuries and did not need to go to the hospital, Braintree police said.
Police were called to the alleged shoplifting at Lids Locker Room around 7:15 p.m., where an officer identified a potential suspect and began to chase them on foot, police said. The chase entered a parking garage, where the suspect got into a tan SUV.
The vehicle hit the officer as it fled the garage, according to police.
Braintree police are actively investigating the incident. They said the suspect is a black man, but did not release any other information.
